This post is a compilation of the work I contributed as Art Lead at Looty Games for Brutal Battlegrounds, one of Roblox’s first 17+ experiences.
I led a team of talented native Roblox creators in producing cinematic finisher animations inspired by Mortal Kombat fatalities. The goal was to create brutal, stylized cutscenes that pushed the tone of the game while still fitting within Roblox’s visual language.
My responsibilities included creating storyboards and animatics to guide the animation team, with inspiration drawn from sources such as God of War, Transformers, and classic Chinese kung fu films.
I also provided modeling support for several gore assets used throughout the cinematics, along with brief rigging and simulation support for effects such as the exploding head sequence. In some cases, we used outsourced assets as a starting point, such as the skeleton model, which I adapted to better resemble a Roblox-style character and fit the world’s visual direction.
In addition to the cinematic work, I created in-game icons for each finisher animation to help support the game’s UI and presentation.
Huge thanks to the Looty Games team and the talented artists and animators who helped bring these finishers to life.
